(Houston Irvine) (1929-) Date Created October 25, 1974 Description Flournoy, Republican candidate for governor of California, talks about his position on such issues as taxes and national health insurance. He has always been in favor of federal-state revenue sharing as a way to achieve long-range equity between taxpayers, tax costs, and supported services. He has consistently tried to relieve the property tax burden. He opposes federally controlled national health insurance. Compared to his opponent, Flournoy is less partisan and therefore better able to cooperate and reach agreements. Furthermore, Flournoy's campaign is more open and less secretive, which is very important in light of Watergate. Subject(s) Politics and government California.
