The atmosphere created by Egyptian president Sadat‘s mission to Jerusalem must not be allowed to slip away. Marei discusses the latest Egyptian proposal, which calls for a transitional period of five years, at the end of which the Palestinian people will determine their own future. Talks will be held, safeguards will be included, and Israeli withdrawal will be gradual. Egypt has done all that it can to enhance the chances for peace.
