Item Title The Convenient Myths About Today's Students
Speaker Sherriffs, Alex C.
Date CreatedMay 19, 1967
Description

Alex C. Sherriffs looks at the character of young people in society, focusing on his experiences with the students at Berkeley. He say that although young people are frequently described as either bad, or in glowing terms, these appraisals are based on myths. A number of in-depth studies, however, describe young people as better trained intellectually, but also lonely, having short, shallow friendships and experiencing trouble with authority. He points to studies and his own empirical data to dispel these myths and to explain the characteristics of the youth. He advocates all adults to act as role models for the youth to emulate.
