Description

State Senator McCarthy speaks about the Free Speech Movement and the problems at the University of California-Berkeley campus. He begins by recounting the constitution of California, reminding the audience the university is a fourth branch of government. He moves on to question when free speech interferes with the running of a school. He recalls the history of the conflicts, praising the governor took the proper step in sending police to assist the campus. McCarthy then goes on to talk about future legislation for California in response to the issue. He says he wants to respect free speech, but only in the proper manner.
