Speaker Rockefeller, Nelson A. (Nelson Aldrich) (1908-1979)
Date CreatedMay 29, 1964
Description

Rockefeller is concerned that, despite four-year-old promises to get the country moving again, the United States still has an unemployment rate of more than 5 percent under the current Democratic administration. He is also concerned about the philosophy of a prominent Republican seeking the presidency, who has said that the unemployed have low intelligence or low ambition. Rockefeller's campaign agenda includes encouraging free enterprise, transferring tax sources to the states, favoring social security medical insurance, balancing the budget, remaining in the United Nations, and establishing a clear and firm foreign policy.
