Item Title The Folly of Appeasement
Speaker Lane, Arthur Bliss (1894-1956)
Date CreatedOctober 15, 1948
Description

Lane expresses his view that appeasement continues to be the major policy of American government when it comes to matters relating to the Soviet Union. Lane believes that the agreement reached in Tehran by Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin violates the Atlantic Charter, deprives Poland of its autonomy, and enslaves Poland to the Soviet Union after World War II. He also believes that the agreement is a direct violation of the three first principles of the Atlantic Charter. He also recommends that America should back its diplomatic positions with military might.
