Item Title G.I.s and the Handwriting on the Wall
Speaker Moore, Charles E.
Date CreatedJanuary 25, 1946
Description

With World War II over, the U.S. government asked representatives of labor and industry to talk with U.S. troops in the Pacific. Moore discusses what he saw in Japan, expresses concern about favorable views of the Soviets in the Philippines, and tells about his chat with General MacArthur. He found that the labor representatives he traveled with believed in free enterprise and democracy, but also wanted full employment and high wages. Moore says that he told the G.I.s that they are coming home to millions of jobs, and that we are trying to retain free enterprise in the U.S. until the soldiers return and take over.
