Item Title Can a Citizen Government Really Work?
Speaker Burke, Yvonne Brathwaite
Date CreatedDecember 02, 1977
Description

The American public has never had lower confidence in its political and social institutions. Two changes would improve political institutions in the United States: (1) government must be more active in evaluating itself, and (2) it must make reforms that make people believe the government is not an obstacle to their functioning in society. Braithwaite talks about evaluation of government spending policies, the sunset law, and public participation in government decision-making. She also talks about California‘s need to confront crime and drug use, and improve the business climate. She is likely to be a candidate for California attorney general if Evelle Younger does not run for that position.
