Item Title Foreign Policy of the U.S.S.R.: Soviet-American Relations
Speaker Zinchuk, Alexander I.
Date CreatedNovember 23, 1977
Description

Sixty years of Soviet foreign policy show firm and consistent adherence to peace by the Soviet Union. The state of Soviet relations with the United States is exceptionally important. Starting with the May 1972 meeting in Moscow, both Americans and Soviets have made great efforts to eliminate cold war tensions. Zinchuk discusses agreements between these countries since 1972. The Soviets wish to complete a strategic arms limitation agreement, SALT II, as soon as possible. They are in favor of scaling down the arms race and eventually eliminating the menace of nuclear war. President Brezhnev has made two proposals this month to curtail nuclear weapons production and testing.
