Description

The Sierra Club has not been a barrier to most conventional progress. The club uses lawsuits to stop projects, but this is to help uphold the law. Most lawsuits are filed against government agencies, not businesses. Business can live with the programs the club advocates, as many businesses have demonstrated. Environmental programs provide business opportunities, and they create a happier and healthier workforce. Most businesses try to pass on the costs of pollution control investments to consumers, but these are not that significant overall. Many environmental programs are focused on managing resources and preventing waste, thus are anti-inflationary. Energy is a good example. The club believes that product prices should reflect their true costs and should not be held down by government subsidies.
