Item Title The Demystification of Intelligence
Speaker Turner, Stansfield (1923-)
Date CreatedAugust 05, 1977
Description

Recent presidential actions have strengthened control over the United States intelligence system and ensured stringent oversight of intelligence operations. Turner emphasizes the importance of intelligence, and recognizes that it should be used in ways consonant with our concepts of society. He has disclosed the CIA‘s past history and wants to open U.S. intelligence activity to greater public scrutiny. The CIA has published several major studies that contribute to informed public debate. Still, some secrecy is necessary in defense of our country.
