Item Title Death Penalty: Is It Effective?
Speaker Amsterdam, Anthony G.
Date CreatedJuly 08, 1977
Description

Capital punishment means exterminating people. The courts have authorized us to start up executions again, if we want to. Amsterdam talks about the prisoners awaiting capital punishment, legal errors, unconstitutional executions, and how discrimination infects justice. He considers the justifications for capital punishment, including retribution, isolation, and deterrence. Capital punishment is a dying institution, abandoned in most of the civilized world, and Amsterdam sees a future time when executions will cease. Shouldn't we stop them now?
