Item Title The State of the Criminal Justice System in California
Speaker Davis, Edward M. (1916-2006)
Date CreatedJuly 01, 1977
Description

Davis, who reduced the crime rate in Los Angeles since becoming police chief in 1969, talks about crime and the legal system, including the death penalty and the Adult Authority Board. The judicial appointments and insensitive laws enacted in California give crime victims almost no hope. Davis criticizes what he calls the new "bill of rights movement" for such groups as marijuana users, homosexuals, children, and police officers. He believes that elitist answers have failed, and that it is time to better represent the victims of crime.
