Item Title Reviving the Private Sector's Spirit
Speaker Brown, Jerry (1938-)
Date CreatedApril 15, 1977
Description

Brown talks on the dissatisfaction with a growing government. He notes that over the years, through administrations of both major parties, government has gradually assumed roles traditionally taken care of by the private sector (by the family, neighborhood, church, union, etc.). He says everywhere he goes, people want answers to problems, and these answers are usually contradictory to other answers to other problems. He says the goal society should strive for is rebuilding the self-reliance and independence that is eroding and putting additional burdens upon government. He does not see additional taxes to fund additional, centralized government as the answer. He warns against the self-feeding sense of government growth, saying eventually government agencies become their own reason for being.
