The island of Cyprus was under British rule until 1960. It was declared an independent republic when the Zurich and London agreements were signed by Britain, Greece and Turkey. Cyprus joined the group of non-aligned countries and remained a member of the British Commonwealth. The people of Cyprus--Greeks, Turks, and others-- worked harmoniously together for many years despite some internal difficulties stirred from abroad. The impact of the 1974 invasion by Turkey was catastrophic. For many, the initial euphoria of the Turkish Cypriots over their "liberation" by the Turkish army is deteriorating. The Turks violated human rights; thus they violated the United Nations Charter.
The sound quality is poor due to deformation of the original tape carrier (poor slitting).
