Item Title Labor's Future
Speaker Henning, John F.
Date CreatedAugust 20, 1976
Description

The Industrial Revolution yielded unparalleled advances in technology and production, and brought advantages to consumers. There have been three responses: Marxism, political liberalism, and labor unionism. In the U.S., reformers gave us workmen‘s compensation, abolition of child labor, minimum wage laws at the state level for women and minors, and protective laws for women. The industrial age gave the U.S. labor unions. Workers join them for better wages, hours, and conditions. Henning discusses the environment, unemployment, and free trade. He also talks about the multinational corporation and the movement of work overseas, where labor is cheaper.
