Lundborg discusses the power of the word. He mentions how the writings of Paine, Marx, Lenin, Trotsky and Tolstoy helped crystallize the thinking of American colonists and also paved the way for dictators. There were two things that made the American Revolution different. One, the writings of influential people did not stop the overthrow of the existing government. Two, in the other revolutions, most of the writings came from men who were professional writers or professional seekers after political power. About politics in the U.S., Lundborg notes that we tend to throw money at our politicians in hopes that they will solve our problems. Sometimes businessmen might back a candidate for office or try to defeat a piece of legislation, but the search for social justice has been largely abandoned. Business people tend to express themselves on legislation to little effect. Lundborg also talks about disenchantment with business, corporate macho ego, powerful legislation, and maintaining high ideals.
