An exile speaks, quietly but eloquently, of his unhappy country, ruled over for six
years by what WFB describes as "a spectacular sadist, Colonel Mengistu, who set out to make Ethiopia a client state of the Soviet Union." Somalia was torn by war on two fronts and hegemonized by the Soviets, via their Cuban vassals. WFB: "How prominent are the Cubans? Are they behind the scenes or are they highly active and visible in all of the affairs?" DD: "They are highly active and they are visible, quite visible, and some of the atrocities they have committed--they're the kind of thing I don't want to mention on public television. They have violated our traditions, they have violated our homes, and it's the kind of thing that no part of society can accept."
