Item Title The Permanent Challenge of Peace: U.S. Policy toward the Soviet Union
Speaker Kissinger, Henry (1923-)
Date CreatedFebruary 03, 1976
Description

Kissinger talks about how to deal with the Soviet Union. After World War II, United States policies built military strength, from which the U.S. could contain and isolate the Soviet Union. He notes that the USSR has achieved equality with the U.S. in military terms, so it can threaten places beyond the Eurasian land mass. Kissinger also talks about the SALT agreement, the Vladivostok accord, the conflict in Angola, and opposition in Africa.

A transcript of the talk is in the book "Each a Mighty Voice" (Heyday Books, 2004).
