From the typescript inventory: "Am Sing Faung (Village). During the Tai Ping Revolution, one of its best army under Shieh Ta Kai was perished here -- among two rivers (or bound by rivers) Ta Tu River and Kin-sha Kiang. As the Red Army arrived here, it is anticipated that it will be trapped and perished like that of the Tai Ping Revolution. Prediction of the Kuomintang failed after all, however. The Red Army has crossed the Ta Tau River successfully and established its invincible base."
This is one of a set of black ink sketches made along the route of the Long March by one of its survivors. The artist used scraps of paper of different kinds, sizes, and colors--whatever was available. The drawings were presented to Nym Wales in Yenan in 1937. The sketches have been published in "Chang zheng hua ji" by Zhen Huang, a copy of which is available in the Hoover Library.
