Description

Mr. Bradley was the first black mayor of a predominantly white major city; as a

young man he had become an L.A. policeman, eventually serving for twenty years, and more recently he had sat on the City Council. This discussion begins, inevitably, with the question of race (WFB: "So you don't think that it would be dismaying, say, to your supporters in Watts if you were to criticize irresponsibility when committed in Watts?" TB: "I didn't say that. It may be dismaying. I'm sure there are going to come moments like that.... But that's the responsibility that you face"), but quickly moves to topics such as education, crime, and the impending traffic crisis if Angelinos can't be persuaded to car-pool or ride public transportation.
