Item Title Is the Western World Undergoing a Crisis?
Speaker Kosciusko-Morizet, Jacques
Date CreatedOctober 17, 1975
Description

Kosciusko-Morizet talks about issues facing liberal democracies. He sees an economic and a cultural crisis facing the West, with the former a result of the shortcomings of the liberal economic order, and the latter a result of the growing counter-culture movement. Because of the significant global influence of the United States, he encourages the U.S. to exercise leadership and work to eliminate trade imbalances. He specifically criticizes protectionist measures placed on foreign imports. Finally, Kosciusko-Morizet explains how alliances between Western countries, such as the Atlantic Alliance, are crucial to maintaining the West's global influence in the future.
