Item Title Essence of Americanism
Speaker Read, Leonard Edward (1898-)
Date CreatedOctober 10, 1975
Description

Read describes what he considers to be the essence of Americanism, that men "are endowed by the creator with certain inalienable rights." He argues that the United States Constitution and Bill of Rights were originally intended to limit government, and that recent government programs are nothing short of socialism and communism. He believes they caused the latest inflation problem. Read goes on to compare socialism to fascism, Nazism, and planned economies.
