Item Title Better Air Transportation at Lower Prices
Speaker Tillinghast, Charles
Date CreatedJuly 18, 1975
Description

Deregulation of the air transportation industray has gone too far, according to Tillinghast. He argues for more common policy concerning regulation of transportation. Citing thin profit margins, he explains is that it is difficult to maintain load factors in a competitive industry. The present integrated system is maintained through heavy cross subsidization. Deregulation would lead to more competition in the market, which in turn would destroy the profitability of the industry. Tillinghast concludes that current deregulation legislation in Washington could lead to chaos in the market; at stake is the future of an effective transportation system.
