Speaker McGovern, George S. (George Stanley) (1922-2012)
Date CreatedJuly 02, 1975
Description

McGovern calls for the elimination of the Organization of American States' (O.A.S.) embargo on Cuba. He cites the Cubans' desire for trade, and the hope of peaceful dialogue between the U.S. and Cuba if trade is allowed, as reasons to end the embargo. Calling the original embargo decision a mistake, he believes it is time to accept the world's diversity. As another point in favor of changing this policy, he points out that the U.S. trades with other communist nations.
