Item Title U.S.-Arab Relations: Postmortem of Summit Diplomacy
Speaker Maksoud, Clovis
Date CreatedJune 27, 1975
Description

Maksoud explores the relations of the Arab states with the United States, the United Nations, and Israel. He expresses frustration with Israel's violation of UN resolutions, and questions the unrestrained assistance of the U.S. to Israel in light of Israel's conquests and violations of Palestinian rights. The problem, Maksoud argues, lies with the Zionist ideology of Israel, which is sugar-coated colonialism. Israel's delaying tactics, he warns, could lead to a "situation of total paralysis" by 1977. In closing, Maksoud talks about economic issues of OPEC oil production, and expresses a desire for new humanism and understanding, rather than discrimination, in the Middle East.
