Speaker Gold, Herbert (1924-)
Date CreatedJune 13, 1975
Description

Gold examines the nature of fiction, lies, and lies that reveal truth. He contrasts a true lie with a false truth, which is a truth that says nothing about reality. Fiction can illustrate and enliven facts in ways that simple true statements cannot, because they tell without showing. He gives examples of stories that convey the meaning of a statement, but with more power, because the truth of the statement is demonstrated to the reader.
