Speaker Baker, Howard H., Jr. (Howard Henry) (1925-2014)
Date CreatedJune 06, 1975
Description

Baker talks about the recent reevaluation of United States foreign policy. He explains changes in the policy, and discusses what he expects to see in the future. Detente will expand, as will self-reliance among allied nations. Despite nuclear proliferation, Baker does not believe that technological advances inevitably lead to destruction. He believes solutions will be found, though defense spending will increase. Finally, Baker discusses U.S. influence around the world, and how the U.S. can aid the Middle East peace process. In closing, he emphasizes the burden that detente is forced to bear.
