Kenneth Clark's work had been cited by Earl Warren in a decision outlawing segregated schools, but on the basis of something Mr. Clark had recently said, WFB wonders whether integration is no longer his main priority. KC: "I think that what has become increasingly clear to me is the limitation of the American people in terms of concern for human beings. I think there is now clear evidence that the vast majority of Americans are perfectly willing to sacrifice hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of children who are brown on the altar of race. I think that it is clear that de facto segregated schools in the North are as damaging and detrimental to the human spirit and human potential as the segregated schools which we fought so valiantly against in the South." A sometimes-depressing show, but one that gives real insight into how our country's efforts at integration look from the ghetto.
