Item Title Micronesia Trusteeship
Speaker Johnston, Edward E.
Date CreatedMarch 14, 1975
Description

Johnston speaks about the strategic trusteeship between Micronesia and the United States. He explains the nature of the relationship and recounts improvements brought to the country by the United States. These include a lowered infant mortality rate, a public school system, and a community college. He is proud of Micronesia's advancements towards self-government. However, infrastructure destroyed in World War II has yet to be replaced, and rampant inflation plagues the islands. In closing, Johnston lays out future possibilities for Micronesia as a self-governing nation.
