Item Title Dossiers and Databanks: Right to Privacy
Speaker Neier, Aryeh (1937-)
Date CreatedJanuary 17, 1975
Description

Neier discusses personal privacy and the assault on it by government and industry, focusing on dossiers and who has access to them. For example, psychological files on children are readily available to juvenile courts and employers. Juvenile courts are supposed to operate under confidentiality, but juvenile judges often do not respect confidentiality. Juvenile arrest records often get shipped off to the FBI, and from there the FBI disseminates files almost indiscriminately to employers, and particularly to various licensing services. This is a huge breach of personal privacy. Neier goes on to list several ways in which the government has taken away or attempted to take away various privacy rights. This must be put to a stop, and Neier suggests that the president must be the person to drive this movement.
