Item Title Collective Bargaining 1975: Bridging Troubled Waters
Speaker Usery, W. J. (1923-)
Date CreatedJanuary 10, 1975
Description

Usery discusses the struggle between labor and management and how this tense relationship must adapt to the current economic state. All across the United States we are seeing examples of unusual cooperation between labor and management that neutralizes the harmful impact of the recession-inflation combination. This cooperation is necessary to nurse the economy back to strength. Both labor and management must assemble a survival kit that will stabilize the economy; that will protect both jobs and profits. It is also important to renegotiate contracts in light of the changing economy in a way that will strengthen confidence between labor and management. Collective bargaining is a strategy that will restore this confidence and also restrain inflation and ease the recession.
