Roth discusses options for a new national health insurance plan in the United States. He begins with the idea that politicians stress health care more than the public does. This occurs because, if legislation concerning health care reforms fails, the public's first response is to blame the medical profession rather than legislators. Thus it is a relatively safe issue for politicians to latch onto. Next he talks about different health care proposals. One such program called for a specific number of doctors to be trained in each medical field, which would get the government much more involved in medical school curriculum. Finally, Roth suggests that the main objective of the medical profession is to increase the general quality of health care.
