Item Title Labor Relations for Agriculture
Speaker Fitzsimmons, Frank E. (1906-1981)
Date CreatedJune 07, 1974
Description

Fitzsimmons speaks about current problems in labor-management relations and blames Cesar Chavez for instigating most of these issues. Fitzsimmons makes the case that farm workers did not have a say in many of the actions taken by Chavez's union; these workers, when given the opportunity, overwhelmingly left the union to join the teamsters. The root of the problem, according to Fitzsimmons, is the exclusion of farmers from the National Labor Relations Act. This denies farm workers the government protection given to other labor groups. He urges Congress to address this issue.

Chavez later spoke at the Club in Nov 1982 and Dolores Huerta in 2003.
