Description

Descriptions culled from writing on cassette labels:

Parts 1-2:

North's testimony Wed 8 July 1987 before House/Senate Iran/Contra investigating committees hearing carried live by US television networks. This was ABC as seen on AFRTS television. Announcer Peter Jennings, commentator Brit Hume, on the Hill. Questioner: Chief Counsel John Nields. North's Counsel Attorney Brendan Sullivan. Began tape after hearing had begun. My tape beings about 1650 European time. end 1735, when hearing adjourned until Thursday. Most interesting (to me) comments on SECORD.

Parts 3-4:

North's 3d day but I have naught on day 1.

Continuation of 8 July testimony, began 1740, end 1810 then follows taped comment from CNN news and on into 9 July. Missed his opening statement but it was summarized in the CNN news at the end of this tape. This day 9 July North was questioned by Minority Counsel whose name I did not catch - on tape. It is interesting to note the comments again, at adjournment, by Peter Jennings, ABC, and his cohort on the Hill. Offer insight into the tone and sum of the proceedings. Tomorrow Arthur Liman, a real North antagonist, takes over the questioning. Tape not full.

Parts 5-6:

1st voice Sen George Mitchell (D-Maine) tape began 1513 - went to Peter Jennings comments 1600 then sent Paul Tribble (R- then Sen Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and Sen Wm Bloomfield (R-MI) 1740 turned tape, now Sen Paul Sabanes (R-Md) then Sen James McClure (R-ID) then Rudmann the break came at 1810 follow by Jennings comments. Mitchell gave North lecture on opponents of aid. Committe members treated North
