Part 1: Setting up the Far East-Slavic institute, discussion of problems, early life.

Part 2: Activities in SSRC, organizing the Institute at University of Washington (personnel, fundraising, etc.), important individuals in China studies, influential thinkers in Taylor's life

Part 3: Experience in China, 8th route army, Chungking, leaving China, building institute at U.Washington, developing China studies in 1960s and 1970s, Soviet press translation at U. Washington, reflections on area studies in U.S. now as compared to WWII and early years.
