Item Title Proposition 1 and the Expenditure Limitations Initiative [1]
Speaker Moretti, Robert (1936-)
Date CreatedOctober 05, 1973
Description

In the upcoming California election, Moretti urges voters to vote "No" on Proposition 1. The proposition "requires that prior to raising any additional revenues in California a two-thirds vote of both Houses of the Legislature, a subsequent signature by the Governor and finally approval by the people must be obtained." Moretti believes this proposition will take representative power away from the voters and place it in the hands of fourteen members of the state senate--they are the ones who represent more than one-third of the senate body. The initiative focuses on the proposed changes in how California‘s tax law is administered.
