Item Title Overkill or Overconfidence? U.S. Defense
Speaker Schlafly, Phyllis
Date CreatedJuly 13, 1973
Description

Schlafly explains her support of military defense spending to protect the United States from the Soviet Union and its increasingly powerful weapons. She believes that we cannot trust them to comply with treaties because the "Soviets have broken every major treaty they ever signed except their treaty with Hitler." Isolation is no longer a feasible defense for the United States in the era of nuclear weapons, and the SALT treaty need not be a hindrance to U.S. development of better defense weapon systems.
