Speaker Stevenson, Adlai E., III (Adlai Ewing) (1930-)
Date CreatedApril 13, 1973
Description

Stevenson discusses his frustration with the "partisan, misleading and diversionary rhetoric" of both Democrats and Republicans when it comes to solving political, economic and social issues. He questions who will raise "deep and fundamental social questions of equity and fairness"-- Congress? The President? Concerned about the Watergate scandal and the liberal use of presidential power "sanctioned by no law or historical precedent," he also sees Watergate raising deeper questions of "honor, of law, [and] of the durability of our form of government."
