Item Title Earthquake Hazard and Public Policy in California
Speaker Steinbrugge, Karl V.
Date CreatedMarch 30, 1973
Description

Issues in planning for natural disasters in California, especially earthquakes and wildfires, are discussed. Steinbrugge is extremely concerned by the lack of earthquake resistance measures in building codes and public policy. He hypothesizes about the amount of damage a large quake on either the San Andreas or Hayward faults would cause. He also addresses wildfires in the East Bay Area hills and the great damage that could result--a matter that needs to be addressed immediately.
