Graham discusses the tension between the Nixon administration and the Washington Post over the Post's reporting of the Watergate affair. She talks about Watergate in terms of what is says about the state of relations between the news media and the reading public, or rather, the state of the First Amendment. Anonymous sources, media bias, and reader bias are among her topics.
In the question and answer session, Graham defends news analysis, describes the pressures on journalists, comments on reporting secret information, talks about classified and stolen documents in regard to the Pentagon Papers, is asked to evaluate the American press versus the international press, defends reporting on polls, and comments on the roll of the media in presidential elections.
A transcript of the talk is in the book "Each a Mighty Voice" (Heyday Books, 2004).
