Description

The first segment is a discussion about the function of coalitions in a democratic Bulgaria. Topics include: their role as a means of opposition and the neccesity for coalitions to understand the economic programs of the Bulgarian Socialist Party in order to effectively participate as a opposition partners.

The second segment is the program, "Literature Cafe". Writer, Atanas Slavov, talks about the 50th congress of the Writers Union in Lugano in 1987. Topic include: Italian fascism, philosophical ideas about the "temporarity of evil" and general comments about the landscape and architecture in Lugano.

The third segment concerns correspondence between the playwright, George Bernard Shaw, and Bulgarian journalist, Nikolai Penchev, regarding Shaw's play, "Arms and the Man" which takes place during the 1885 Serbo-Bulgarian War. Several questions regarding the motives of using this war as a base for the play were discussed.

The broadcast appears to have originated from RFE studios in New York.
