Date CreatedJune 16, 1972
Description

In the club's 41st annual literature awards for California authors, Draper gives the top award, a gold medal for fiction, to Ernest J. Gaines for "The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman." Gaines relates some of his childhood experiences that gave rise to the book. Other winners are William Dickey, Alexander Saxton, Miska Miles, William Peter Blatty, Harold L. Kahn, and Marion P. Ireland. A "gauche" proxy statement written by Kahn and read by the author's wife provides some excitement.
