Item Title Changes and Challenges in Highway and Transportation Development
Speaker Randolph, Jennings (1902-1998)
Date CreatedNovember 26, 1971
Description

Senator Randolph argues the United States must decide what a balanced transportation system is and how to bring it into being. Public attitudes and community involvement are keys to solving urban transportation problems to him. He says the highway program must be more involved in meeting mass transportation needs, which means buses in most communities. He wonders if state-provided transit will become an expected role of the government in the way that police and street lights are seen by the public.
