Speaker Honda, Mike (1941-)
Date CreatedFebruary 25, 2005
Description

Congressman Honda, who as a infant was placed in an internment camp during World War II, speaks on the similarities between World War II and the current climate. He speaks about this because he wants to educate people on past mistakes so they are not repeated. He wants to prevent racial profiling of Muslims, etc., during the war on terror. Honda strongly criticizes the USA PATRIOT Act on grounds of separation of powers, feeling it encourages racial discrimination and revocation of due process. He says many Republicans voted for the act without reading it, now regret that vote, and are working against the intentions of Patriot Act 2.
