Item Title Proposition 72 Debate: Health Care Coverage Requirements
Speaker Corlin, Richard F.
Speaker Zaremberg, Allan
Date CreatedOctober 25, 2004
Description

Dr. Richard Corlin speaks in favor of the proposition; Allan Zaremberg, of CalChamber, speaks against the proposition. Moderated by Victoria Colliver, San Francisco Chronicle journalist.

During the opening remarks, Dr. Corlin says there should not be a government run system, but that requiring employer-provided healthcare is advantageous. He believes having uninsured people is immoral, and there will not be negative economic effects from the proposition. Meanwhile, Zaremberg frames the proposition as an economic burden on employers, says it is a removal of personal choice, and recounts the number of major newspapers that have endorsed a "no" vote on the proposition. He believes it is indeed government-run healthcare.
