Zogby critiques the war in Iraq, saying America does not know the history and culture of the country it invaded. Citing polling he conducted, he says Arabs do not hate American values and products, but they hate American policy towards the Middle East. Zogby argues the American ignorance leads to poor outcomes, and rationales for those ignorant actions are moot points. Tracing the history of the region, he says this ignorance dates back to the post-WWI era, Arab and Kurdish thirst for independence, and the British and French spheres of influence and artificial borders. He then details how presidents from Wilson through Bush interacted with the region, concentrating on American involvement in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Reminding the audience that he has a PhD in religion, he says that Islam is not a religion of hate. Zogby concludes by offering a plan taking the best parts of H. W. Bush and Clinton policies.
