Alterman speaks about the lies presidents tell. Beginning his talk with the Bush administration, Alterman believes America is now in a post-truth era, where the concept of truth is irrelevant to the administration. Though he says lying is not always wrong, he says that truth is the best policy. He then ponders the Roosevelt-Truman and Kennedy-Johnson transitions in light of how truth and lying result in various consequences. Following, he analyzes the Reagan administration's actions in Central America. He concludes by revisiting Bush in light of the pending election.
The question and answer session also touches on Pearl Harbor, President Clinton, spin, and balance in media.
