Item Title Hughes's Interests in Nevada
Speaker Laxalt, Paul
Date CreatedMarch 26, 1971
Description

Laxalt begins by analyzing examples of the Nevada politicians and psyche that preceding the arrival of Howard Hughes. He looks at this in the lens of Nevada having a long streak of independence and ruggedness. He is sure to mention that Nevada's economy is founded upon gambling. Because of this dependence, Nevada placed a thorough eye on Hughes upon his arrival. Laxalt credits welcoming Hughes with open arms as the most important decision of Laxalt's time in office. Laxalt forecasts a day when all Las Vegas hotels will be owned by corporations, and he believes this will be a monumental occurrence in solidifying Nevada's economy.
