Marineau speaks on globalization and outsourcing of jobs from the United States. While acknowledging some negative aspects, he believes globalization is in the best long-term interests of America. Saying unobstructed competition allocates production to where it is most efficient, he explains that is more profitable to manufacture internationally through contractors. Outlining Levi Strauss and Company's four core values as empathy, originality, integrity, and courage, he not only says the company has social and community responsibilities, but believes this is good for business as it creates good will. He discusses the efforts of the company to make sure working conditions at contractor facilities meets Levi's standards. He further talks about what Levi's is doing to help the workers negatively affected by outsourcing, citing the company's actions when it closed its facility on Valencia Street in San Francisco. Marineau finishes by calling for all interest-holders (business, government, NGOs, etc.) should work together on important issues, such as providing health-care to all.
